Study finds those born via C-section are more apt to be obese later in life

The struggle to keep excess weight at bay is known by many, but one group in particular may be more vulnerable to carrying extra pounds, notes The Telegraph.

A recent study by Harvard University researchers shows a connection between those born via C-section and greater instances of obesity later in life. The team found that babies who entered the world by cesarean section were 15% more likely to be affected by obesity as adults than those who were born vaginally.

In cases where the C-section was not medically necessary, that number jumped as high as 30% in some age groups. It’s believed the cause is somehow linked to the lack of contact with beneficial bacteria in the birth canal.

Audrey Gaskins, one of the researchers, said, “Children born via C-section harbour less diverse gut bacteria,” the effects of which he compares to having, “…a slower metabolism.” Data for the research was gathered from tens of thousands of records accumulated by both the Growing Up Today Study (GUTS) and the Nurses’ Health Study 2.

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston have already broken up after three months of dating

Hiddleswift is officially over.

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston have reportedly broken up after just three months of dating, Us Weekly reported on Tuesday.

According to the magazine’s multiple sources, Swift “was the one to put the brakes on the relationship.”

“Tom wanted the relationship to be more public than she was comfortable with,” the source continued. “Taylor knew the backlash that comes with public displays of affection but Tom didn’t listen to her concerns when she brought them up.”

Additionally, Hiddleston is allegedly “embarrassed that the relationship fizzled out.”

See photos of Swift and Hiddleston together:

The pair began dating just weeks after Swift’s breakup from Calvin Harris became public back in May after photos leaked of them packing on the PDA on oceanside rocks outside of Swift’s Rhode Island vacation home. Footage of Swift and Hiddleston dancing in a (seemingly) friendly manner at the Met Gala had surfaced also around the same time.

The couple made headlines almost every week at the start of their relationship after they were continually photographed flaunting their relationship for the cameras in North America, Europe and Australia, where Hiddleston has been filming Thor: Ragnarok. Sources told Us Weekly that Swift returning to the States during filming put a strain on their relationship, prompting their first big fight last month.

Their relationship prompted a lot of criticism for its public nature, with backlash reaching its peak over Fourth of July weekend when Swift hosted Hiddleston and many more of her A-list pals for a patriotic blowout that was highly publicized on social media. In addition to making out in the ocean and taking couple pictures with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Hiddleston turned heads by wearing a white tank top that read “I <3 T.S.”

Now, about that rumored music video…

Behind the collection: NYFW Designers share their spring inspiration

Behind the collection: NYFW Designers share their spring inspiration

While New York Fashion Week might take place in during a single week (well, technically 8 days), the designers and their teams are working on the collections for several months leading up to the big presentations. Before the shows kick off this Thursday, we tapped some of our favorite designers to give us a sneak peek — a look behind the curtain at the inspiration behind their latest creations.

“Iris” is the word for Marchesa (and you know Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig will gorgeously bring that to life!) while Monique Lhuillier gives us a glimpse with “ethereal modern romance” and Rebecca Minkoff was inspired by “1970s California surf culture.”

No question about it, this coming week is bound to be quite a mixture of effortless, edgy, gorgeous and glam — and we cannot wait.

Since we’ll be seeing the Spring 2017 collections this September, the bright colors and free-flowing silhouettes are guaranteed to make you that much more nostalgic for the passing of summer ’16. But some designers — like Rebecca Minkoff — will actually be showing you their fall collection. That’s right, you can get excited for the coming season, and shop the show almost immediately. Pretty cool right?
